Her story

Meet Arpita

Arpita Suna lives in Rourkela, in the Indian state of Odisha. She lives with her mother, grandfather, five sisters, and brother in a home full of life, warmth, and connection.

Creativity has long lived within her, even though she never had any formal training. As a child, she drew small houses, families, and everyday scenes, then invented entire stories around them. She smiles as she recounts how she used to "play" inside her drawings, feeding people, caring for them, and imagining small worlds when she felt alone.

Within Bloom Together, that creativity is given more and more room to grow. Arpita loves mehendi, painting, drawing portraits, and all kinds of creative activities where she can create something with her hands. She enjoys learning new techniques and is gradually discovering more and more what she is capable of making.

“As a child, I used to play inside my own drawings”

She draws her inspiration from flowers, nature, her surroundings, and her faith. She says that God gives her new ideas and inspiration in her heart. She also feels connected to traditional patterns and cultural forms from Odisha, such as the motifs seen on pottery and handmade work from her region.

What perhaps best typifies Arpita is her heart for others. When asked what she would do if she were invisible for a day, she says she would secretly like to help poor families and children by leaving things they need. She would also like to support people with disabilities.

Her biggest dream is to give back to her mother, build her family a home, and help others wherever possible.

In her work, you sense softness, care, and imagination. With every new drawing, not only her creativity grows, but also the future she is slowly building for herself and her family.

“My dream is to build a house for my family”
